Behind every successful business, there’s a group of talented people, committed to success. Read all about our top long-time employees below.
Joey Copeland, since 1966
Most known as JJ, Joey Copeland is celebrating 55 years with the company. We all heard the stories about him running around as his old man ran the business. When he turned fifteen, he got his first job as a cashier. But Copeland's learns fast. A couple of years later he took on his first teaching class and never stopped. He might not be our leading instructor, but you can find him on the water every day. JJ showed each one of us how to treat everyone as the best customer we have. Family comes first and JJ knows that more than anyone. Today, Joey supervises the fleets, all to keep the business running.
Maria Ortiz, since 1993
Maria is celebrating 28 years with Copeland Fish. She was 21 when she started working as a fleet organizer. Her ability to store information has always been a gift. Today, she works directly with our fleet commander and operations officer to guarantee the best service is provided. But, Maria is much more than an employee now. She has become part of the family. Blood is a powerful thing, but no more than trust and companionship. Maria has three boys that have for a while joined the company, but back then it was all on her. Copeland is grateful to have her by our side.
Kasuno Verbena, since 1995
Verbena joined us 26 years ago; he was only 25 at the time. Quiet kid at first, but soon after getting to know everybody, he found himself. He has worked cleaning the boats since day one. At the time, he had just come into town and had no one. At the job, he met his current wife, Melanie, and they raised a lovely girl. Copeland meant everything for him, and we wouldn't be here without everyone doing their part. Verbena is everyone's good morning and good night. Even customers are used to see him everywhere. If you need him, he will be there. Copeland Fish has much to thank him.
Henry Copeland, since 1998
It was 23 years ago when Henry joined the family business. As his father would tell, he was not into fishing at all, but after spending a summer helping his father and sister, he learned that he belonged on the boat. A natural talent for fishing, Henry has joined several fleets and created fishing tournaments we provide during vacation months. Known throughout the state, he is our connection to the community. He is married to Marcos, who also works for Copeland as a financial advisor. As they raised their little girl, we can only hope she will one day decide to join the family business.
Samantha Copeland, since 1998
Samantha joined Copeland Fish together with her brother Henry 23 years ago. Different from him, she has always been passionate about fishing. As a young girl, she learned from her dad all business-related materials. She saw on first hand what it means to dedicate yourself to work. Today, she works directly with our CEO Jinxuan, and we hope that one day she can take the lead and keep Copeland the number one in the state. She dedicates most of her time to the company and her dogs. "A true Copeland," Willing would say. The company is grateful to see the family growing within the business.
